What exactly do the clarifying shampoos do?

also do they help keep your hair healthy...and if so what is the best type to use? What exactly do the clarifying shampoos do?
these shampoos are supposed to eliminate the excess oil and product build-up (ex. waxes, silicone) in your hair, but be careful, these shampoos are not supposed to be used on a daily basis because they strip your head of its natural oils and then the scalp will try to over compensate and restore balance by producing too much oilWhat exactly do the clarifying shampoos do?
they clean product build up out of your hair!
I don't think that they really clean product build up out of your hair, but they add less build up that lets say a moisturizing shampoo. I use a clarifying shampoo because I wash my hair the night before. My hair seems to stay cleaner throughout the the next day.
They get rid of the build up from the other shampoos that you use......Neutragina is the best one!! I think I misspelled the brand
they help with getting chemicals out your hair and also chlorin from water. its not good though to use it daily you should only use it at the most 2 days a week but definatly no more than that b/c it can damage your hair big time the best one i have used is one by ';KMS'; they sell it at beuty supply stores that sell brand name shampoos and conditioners
Clarifying shampoos remove build up - stuff like gels, mousse, hairspray, etc - from your hair. Unless you use a lot of styling products on your hair, I wouldn't use it all the time. Constant use of it could dry out the ends of your hair and stimulate the oil glands of the scalp. It's always better to go with a shampoo that is suited to what sort of hair (dry, oily, colored, permed, etc) you have.
well i used to use Pantene and hair stylists say that its bad for your hair i either use Aussie or Sunsilk
They get rid of any build up/ residue on your scalp caused by other shampoos.

I use Neutrogina anti-residue shampoo once a week.

It seems to work for me :]
Dries out your hair killing it
They look at each hair and say ';yup, it's a hair';......
Nothing really, it's all a play of words to get more purchases from customers. Shampoo is shampoo.
It gets rid of all the product buildup on your scalp and hair.
they ';strip'; buildup out of your hair. be wary if you have dry hair, as they also strip the natural oils out of your hair and will dry it out even worse. also, i don't recommend them if you have colored hair (especially red, it fades easily enough on its own!)...i have used clarifying shampoo to strip out haircolor when it comes out too dark.
Clarifying shampoos cleans buildup out of your hair. You could actually use clarifying shampoo when you come from swimming because it takes the chlorine out of your hair. If can be also used after applying relaxers or color to your hair.

However, its not my recommendation to use this on a regular basis. Depending on the type of hair you have, you should go with those type of shampoos.

If you do use the clarifying, make sure you have an excellent conditioner that can follow that. I would recommend keeping the conditioner on for at least 10 to 15 minutes because it can be really harsh so you need something to soften it up.
