When you use clarifying shampoo, can you still use gel?

Because I use alot of gel and I'm just gelling it until my hair grows out but when I wash off the gel and anytime I don't use gel my hair looks messy like the hairs group together. It's not strait and soft like my sisters (I want my hair like that -_-) I'm really concerned because i want to grow out my hair but i don't want it to look bad when it grows out but anyways I asked a while ago about me using gel and how to make it look good and someone said use classifying shampoo but if I use it can i still use gel just in the mean time until my hair grows out? When you use clarifying shampoo, can you still use gel?
Using gel will NEVER permanently alter the structure, shape, or texture of your hair strands (gel coats the hair shaft, but does not penetrate into the strand cortext, yada yada, it's not a bloody perm for christs sake, just gel!)

The person who advised to you use clarifying shampoo did so because that would remove the gel residue from your hair so that you won't have that ';clumping'; you dont like.

Your regular shampoo is leaving trace amounts of gel in your hair, but again the change is not permanent and will not make your hair ';wose'; aside from drying it out a bit maybe.

So use as MUCH gel as you like...wash it out with clarifying shampoo in a jiff, your hair is fine. When you use clarifying shampoo, can you still use gel?

Clarifying shampoo & conditioner?

I usually use Garnier Fructis Sleek %26amp; Shine (which I LOVE!), but since its softball season %26amp; I'm catching, its just not cleaning my hair well enough. So I'm looking for a DRUGSTORE clarifying shampoo %26amp; conditioner.

I'm really considering Herbal Essences Drama Clean. What do you think about it?

Also, will a clarifying shampoo %26amp; conditioner dry my hair out? My old roommate used it like 6 out of 7 times a week %26amp; it didn't hurt her hair, but I'm just wondering....

I'm open to any drugstore brand ,except for Pantene, Dove, and Suave/V05. I'm familiar with ALL the brands + names (its kinda of sickly :/), but if you posted both, that'd be great!

Oh, it doesn't have to be clarifying. Just something that'll clean well (aka, can clean through all the sand!), but I assume that's clarifying. I'd really like something that would moisturize. (:

Thanks in advance! (:Clarifying shampoo %26amp; conditioner?
I tried Drama Clean and it smells so yummy! And it cleans my hair really well! You should try it!Clarifying shampoo %26amp; conditioner?

Clarifying Shampoo help!?

I just bought Ion Clarifying Shampoo from Sally Beauty Supply because my hair has been feeling a bit sticky after I get out of the shower, as if not all of the buildup has washed out. Anyway, I am going to use it tonight but am I supposed to use a conditioner afterwards? I'm going to take a shower in the morning with my normal stuff, I just want to get rid of this buildup. Thanks in advance for your help.Clarifying Shampoo help!?
Use conditioner or your hair will dry out. Using it every 2 weeks is fine, and won't damage your hair. I use suave clarifying and white rain extra body, and they haven't hurt my hair. I use them often.

You could also switch to a light conditioner, for extra body, that you use once in a while.Clarifying Shampoo help!?
IREAD IN A MAGAZINE TO USE BABY SHAMPOO.
yeh use a conditioner afterwards, it depends on how much of a build up you have, in the salon i work in we sometimes put the client under heat too help remove any buid up wrap your hair up in a hot towel this will help.
never wash your hair ever again. then you don't have to A) waste money on shampoo or B) worry about sticky hair

Exfoliating shampoo vs. clarifying shampoo?

My hairdresser recommended I get an exfoliating shampoo because i have very dry scalp. Are exfoliating shampoos and clarifying shampoos the same or similar? I just got a clarifying shampoo today which is a very good salon brand, and a bit less expensive than the exfoliating shampoo, but I am curious as to how similar they are.Exfoliating shampoo vs. clarifying shampoo?
I am so not a professional but i am on the same page as you...wouldn't they be the same and also when you ';scrub';your head i would just make sure to use your scalp extra good rather than go out and spend extra money.

Or use that and then try the exfoliating kind next time.Exfoliating shampoo vs. clarifying shampoo?
exfoliating shampoo helps with your dry scalp, and a clarifying shampoo helps your hair itself by cleaning the buildup that is on it. You would have been better off with the exfoliating. Don't use the clarifying shampoo everyday, it's very drying.
a clarifying shampoo is used to really clean your hair of products and build up and i would not use a clarifying if you have new hair color in.

Will clarifying shampoo take out color??

Just got it colored yesterday and I hate, it's dark red, can I wash it alot with this shampoo? Will clarifying shampoo take out color??
no, but frequent shampooing will make the colour fade. red especially fades very very fast.

you're better off going back to the salon and asking them to fix it. DON'T try doing it at home - you'll end up with an ugly mess and you'll regret it! besides - the salon will do it for free!

stay away from reds if you're not going to use good shampoo though, or it'll just fade right out. if you still want red, just a lighter version, you should invest in some decent shampoo, such as pureology

http://www.pureology.com

this product is 100% sulfate-free, meaning it helps preserve your colour longer! it's especially formulated for red!

but don't try to shampoo it out in a day...you'll just dry your hair out. give it time, or just go back to the salon. Will clarifying shampoo take out color??
Dark Red usually has a blue base. That's the first to go(blue). Then you will still have Red hair. You can use a shampoo soak with Dawn Dish washing liquid, sounds crazy but we always kept this product on hand. Lather up, on wet hair use a plastic cap, or plastic wrap for 15-20 minutes, rinse well then condition your hair. It will remove some color.

But... My real suggestion would be to call a Salon and have them correct this for you.
since the clarifying is acidic (high pH balance), it will probably take most of the color out.
Sorry, no. Clarifying shampoo will wash out product etc, to make the color show up even more. I think the best thing is to go back to the hair dressers. you can also go online to clairol.com and see if they have suggestions
I used prell once and it worked great on taking alot of the color out.. I also tried Dawn dish soap and that worked as well. It will not take all of it out though.
No problem.U paint ur hair with asain paints which is used to paint the houses. It will solve ur problem very early.

That stuff is a real rip off. It never clarified anything for me either. And I did rinse and repeat. Can you help me out, I been using clarifying shampoo for awhile now, but for some reason....?
i don't know how long you have to use the shampoo for but it does make you head smell nice and the shampoo stops you from going bold like me
My guess is, you're not following the directions. It clearly says to rinse AND REPEAT! You don't repeat, do you?

If i use the clarifying shampoo will it make my hair a redish color? ?

Clarifying shampoo takes everything out of your hair.

It will probably fade the hair color by the great degree but will not fade it completely to the natural color. If i use the clarifying shampoo will it make my hair a redish color? ?
No, unfortunately. If i use the clarifying shampoo will it make my hair a redish color? ?
No. Clarifying shampoo only get's rid of the builid up....It might fade the color slightly, But it doesn't add color.

Is there as substitution for clarifying shampoo?????

i dont want to buy clarifying shampoo it is so expensive is there something to use in place of it??????Is there as substitution for clarifying shampoo?????
We us to use baking soda in beauty school.I also used it many years ago at my job .You have to put it in your shampoo leave it in and than rinse and shampoo it again to make sure you get all the baking soda out .Also when you clarify your hair you need to really condition your hair because you just removed all the build up.Is there as substitution for clarifying shampoo?????
mix in baking soda with your shampoo
The shampoos on the market dont always do what they say, how about trying something totally different and buying a shampoo%26amp; conditioner froma health food store, they are natural and they do what they are supposed to do.

What are good, cheap clarifying shampoos?

My hair is EXTREMELY thick and it is really hard [and painful] to get product out of my hair.

    It is like impossible.

    So anyway.

Does anyone know a good cheap clarifying shampoo? I was going to try VO5 Kiwi Clarifying Shampoo, is that good?

By the way, I don't need anything that is like extremely deep cleansing. My hair isn't oily. My hair is normal, if that helps. What are good, cheap clarifying shampoos?
I use Neutrogenia Clarifying shampoo. It works great! It doesn't smell too good though but it gets the product out of your hair. I wouldn't use it every day though. What are good, cheap clarifying shampoos?
forget clarifying shampoos, my stylist says to use a little bit of baking soda with whatever shampoo you currently use and a really good conditioner (make sure it's a REALLY good conditioner because this will take everything out of your hair, including the natural oils that are there and it makes it really hard to get a brush or comb through with out it)

    Do this no more than 1x a week and brush your hair root to tips 100x a day between the ';clarifying';
The Pantene Clarifying shampoo worked quite well for me!

Is clarifying shampoo safe 4 permed hair?

    NO.

A claifying shampoo is made to strip your hair of everything. Styling aids, oils, excess water etc. Chemically treated hair needs alot of maintenance and I dont know about you but getting a perm takes forever and the more you strip your hair the more the curl will relax and that means more frequent visits for you.

Instead, browse through your salons retail products. See if they have Matrix Perm Fresh. This is a leave in spray in conditioner that is light and allows your perm to stay tight and provide the right amount of moisture so the curls dont frizz. They also make a shampoo. OR you can try Biolage Moisturizing shampoo which is a great everyday shampoo if you feel you hair has a tendency to dry out. Matrix/Biolage also has invented a Curl Life line and it is great also. They have a shine milk that helps define the curl without using a hard gel. The milk leaves you hair soft and shiny and defines the curl all at the same time. A good stylish will recommend appropriate products based upon the condition and texture of your hair.

Remember chemically treated hair is not meant to be washed every day. Opt to washing it every other day or even every 2 days. Think of stlyes that you can wear when your hair is ';semi-dirty'; like a cute updo that way not only are you not stripping to many essential oils from the hair but you are also prolonging the life of the perm and doing less damage to the hair shaft. Is clarifying shampoo safe 4 permed hair?
I would stay away from anything that's not meant for chemically treated hair. Your perm will not last as long. If you've got a great-looking perm, go the extra mile for your hair and stick with your salon's recommended products. They are a little more expensive, but your perm will last longer and won't be come frizzy.

Pantene is not good for your hair. My aunt is a hairdresser. I use Treseme. I also take flaxseed oil viatimins to help my hair, skin, and nails. My hair is so shiny and so soft.
Clarifyers remove residues left in your hair by musse hair gel or whatever you add to style your hair allowing your shampoo to work the way it did when you first started using it. They should only be used once or twice a month
    I doubt it

Suave Daily Clarifying is excellent, gentle enough to use (oddly enough) daily and inexpensive.

It's a good idea to use a shampoo like this once a week or every 10 days, especially if you use styling products such as mousse or gel, followed by a 2-minute deep conditioning with the product of your choice (cream or hot oil).

Results? People will gasp with envy at your gorgeous locks! ;)What's the BEST clarifying shampoo?!?.........please answer.. =( lol?
Neutrogena has a good one. It is a bit expensive and most drug stores carry it. If your hair is dry, try using V05 hot oil treatment. I used the shower one and it is just ok. . .
I LOVE herbal essences and head%26amp;shoulders is also good.
ganier or tresemme is the best
Well first of all, Pantene does the exact opposite. Any hairstylist will cringe at the use of that shampoo. Pantene develops a layer of chemicals on each strand of your hair. If you want to clean your hair, I suggest using a brand like Prell. You can find it at Walgreens, and it may look cheap, but it leaves your hair residue free and EXTREMELY healthy. Head and Shoulders does the exact opposite, and is not gentle enough. It will leave your hair dry and frizzy. I suggest using Prell about 3 times a week, and switching off between something like Herbal Essences which is good for your hair or Moisture Kick. It's kind of expensive, but it's definetly worth the price. I hope this helped :)

    Good clarifying shampoo?

I have been using herbal essences ';drama clean'; and it worked good for a while but now it seems like my hair won't come clean anymore. It always feels icky and i wash it every single day. I need a really good clarifying shampoo that i can use every day and that will leave my hair squeaky clean.Good clarifying shampoo?
I use tea tree oil shampoo. It's cheap and it works great.Good clarifying shampoo?
Try BWC's ';Daily Benefits'; organic aromatherapy shampoo. The BWC stands for ';beauty without cruelty'; -- it's not tested on animals, and is 100% organic. This ';Daily Benefits'; line is largely made from plants, and it cleans my hair thoroughly and very fast. It's orange citrus scent was a bit pungent at first, but I soon grew to love it. The stuff just feels profoundly clean -- most mass-market shampoos in your local drug store and supermarket are loaded with chemicals.

I've never seen this stuff in stores -- I found it by accident at drugstore.com about two years ago, tried it on a lark, and will use it as long as they make it. [Come to find out, they've been around since 1963.] It's a bit pricey -- about $6.50 for 16 ounces -- but worth every penny. Your hair will be squeaky clean every time. By the way, it does such an excellent job with the first lathering that the second lathering takes only a tiny amount to work, so a bottle actually lasts several weeks.
Herbal Essences Degunkify...it's like Drama Clean but it's even more clarifying. I LOVE it!
I know Aveda makes a clarifying shampoo - I don't recall the exact name, but Aveda products are the best!

I've heard baking soda is a good clarifying shampoo.?

is this a bad idea?I've heard baking soda is a good clarifying shampoo.?
Baking soda is a good cleanser for all kinds of things around the house. Use it often. It is also a good cleanser for the hair and scalp. Too many of the commercial shampoos contain too much junk in them which coat the hair and eventually will cause problems. Part of the problem is that most people just do not rinse the shampoo out. Hard to believe, but I see that in the shop every day. You can see it when you rinse in the bowl, or you can smell it when they walk in the shop (yes, we can tell).

You can mix up about 1 tablespoon in a glass of water. You can work that into the hair either before a shampoo, or after. Give it a few moments to work. It will loosen any foreign material on the hair, and then it's easier for the shampoo to clear it away. Again, you need to rinse very well after a shampoo. You may need another treatment if you have heavy build-up, and then regular maintenance treatments periodically depending on your needs.I've heard baking soda is a good clarifying shampoo.?
I've known hair dressers who have used it to help strip color. I would use it sparingly. If you really want to use a clarifying shampoo. Neutrogena makes one.
Yes, I've tried it. It is good. It will give different results if you are permed, relaxed, dyed....so be careful.
Yes and a great solution if you'd like to stop using shampoo. Using baking soda not only makes your hair wayyy cleaner, its very good for the environment compared to the stuff shampoo has in it (like harsh sulfates). When you use baking soda, mix it with 2 parts water to create a paste and follow it up with a good conditioner, or if you want to go all natural, apple cider vinegar, which makes your hair very shiny. This process can even create, or tame, waves.

BUT, you should not wash your hair with baking soda everyday. it will dry out your hair. instead use it every other day for beautiful shiny hair!

no..clarifying shampoo is just what it says. clarifying.

if you want to go from black to golden brown it will take up to two processes.. the only way to lift black from your hair is with bleach..then you can tone it.. however i would test it on a strand of hair before you do it to make sure your hair wont fry.

a clarifying shampoo is something you should use about once every two weeks, or about twice a month. using it too much it will begin to strip the protein out of your hair which is damaging to it overall.. if you color your hair you should use a color protecting shampoo, or a moisturizing shampoo. clarifying shampoos are more drying than anything...Will Paul Mitchell clarifying shampoo strip out the black from my hair? help!?

Does clarifying shampoo help get rid of hair dye?

I have natural dark blonde hair. I dyed it with a semipermanet awhile ago and its made my hair appear a reddy/brown. I want my hair back to blonde and ive hear clarifying shampoo helps get rid of hair dye. Will it work?Does clarifying shampoo help get rid of hair dye?

What is the best clarifying shampoo that i can use on African American Hair?

I need to know because my scalp gets oily. What is the best clarifying shampoo that i can use on African American Hair?
I've seen people use chelating shampoos to clarify. Some top of the line brands are Joico, Mizani, L'anza etc. There is also Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Creamy Aloe Shampoo. It's also considered a chelating poo. However I use good ol' Suave Clarifying Shampoo. Some clarifying poos strip your hair of everything including moisture so be prepared to follow up with a moisturizing conditioner. What is the best clarifying shampoo that i can use on African American Hair?
Honey shampoo is shampoo long as you don't but the cheap kind. That will strip out everybodys hair. Just get some pantene or something
i use herbal essance they hydrolicious kind and its absolutely amazing.

my scalp is never oily unless i put oil in it.

  • Clarifying shampoo ?

I used the John Frieda color glaze in order to enhance my dark brown color and it wasnt absolutely terrible in that department, but nothing to write home about either. Anyway what I did notice is that it made my usually volumous (thick-appearance) hair look flat and dull. It feels weighed down. Anyway I washed with bumble and bumble clarifying shampoo tonight but it still appears much flatter than usual. I already have tons of volumizing products and know how to dry my hair to give it body, but I miss what I know that my hair naturally has. Does anyone have any advice? I do believe that this product made my hair greasier too. How many shampoos does it take to wash it out? Should I stick to the bumble and bumble or just use a regular shampoo? How many times does the hair need to be washed to rid it of the color glaze?Clarifying shampoo ?
Well I would try using Garniar Frutcis volumising...it works well for keeping my hair volumised.Clarifying shampoo ?
you know, i'm not positive this will absolutely work, but have you tried t-gel? it's a really tough shampoo, but not tough on your hair. I had psoriasis as a little girl so i had to use it :(

i also had really oily hair and it helped clear up the greasy part without giving me dandruff. since it is so tough it might completely strip your hair of that color glaze. t-gel is a little smelly, but it won't make your hair smell bad!

i hope this helps! i'm actually glad you posted this b/c i was thinking about buying the same product for my hair... now i won't! good luck!

    Clarifying shampoo ...?

My boyfriend uses clarifying shampoo for his mane-like hair. I know it removes dirt, oils, styling product buildup and fades hair dye. Well I used it about an hour ago because I dyed my hair, didn't turn out right so I'm gonna bleach it in about a week. I wanted to use it to fade out as much of the dye as possible before I bleach. Well it got my hair clean, but it made it feel kinda gummy ... like it was a little bit stretchy (it already is that way, but it felt more so when it was wet this time) and I have like dandruff right now. I NEVER get dandruff, but my scalp is kinda flaky right now. Why did it do this? Should I keep using it to remove the dye, or is it a bad idea?Clarifying shampoo ...?
STOP USING IT! some shampoos are just not suitable for some people's hair. you can probably use another brand.Clarifying shampoo ...?
I would stop using it. It may be too harsh for your hair. You should only use a clarifing shampoo once a week. If you do use it, use a really good conditioner after.
Hair is gummy and stretchy and you have dandruff. Your hair is overprocessed and the clarifying shampoo is drying out both your scalp and further damaging your hair. Do not try to bleach your hair any time soon or you will end up with probably very little hair and it will not resemble hair at all. Get to the salon and begin heavy duty reconstructive treatments once a week for six weeks. Be sure you get both protein and moisture treatments. Get a haircut, I imagine this is not something you want to hear, but nevertheless, like getting a shot from the doctor, it is necessary. If you do all these things, in about 8 weeks you can discuss a color change with your stylist. Your hair is very fragile right now, so please, go to a professional. Good luck!!

Your just gonna have to wait for it to wear off. Keep washing it with the clarifying shampoo and it will be fine in a week or two. Also to increase volume, put your hair on the top of your head while you get ready, like do you makeup. This will tease your roots into pointing slighty upwards and give you amazing volume.Clarifying shampoo?

    Clarifying Shampoo.....??

I normally wash my hair every other day, my hair is very oily but dry at the ends, I use hair serums, leave in conditioners, shine infusions, blow drier every other day and use a flat iron daily. I have been doing this for a couple of years and have never used a clarifying shampoo to rid my hair of all the junk that i use.

I have a question about clarifying shampoos though....

Is it recommended that i use one to begin with and which one is the best?

Should i use it daily or just once a week?

Do i have to use a conditioner after shampooing?Clarifying Shampoo.....??
any pro. Clarifying shampoo is good....you can also clarify with vinegar...It works.

once a month is good enoughClarifying Shampoo.....??
i researched this a while ago online and once a week u put shampoo in ur palm (when in shower) then put a quarter size of baking soda on top of that, mix it together and shampoo like u regularly do, its same as clarifying, but cheaper and better on ur hair. then u use conditioner like normal, but remember, do this only ONCE a week
My hair sounds just like yours. Make sure you are keeping the leave in conditioner and serums off your scalp if you aren't already. As for the clarifying shampoo, I use a cheap one and it works great. My scalp is so oily I can use it just on my scalp more often that once a week, but the rest of your hair don't do more than once a week because it will dry your hair out. You'll see once you try it. And yes, use a conditioner after you shampoo. Works for me...
I use Herbal Essence and I use it every time i wash my hair and then condition
use a clarifying shampoo 1-2 times a week leave in for 5 minutes and rinse. You will have to use a conditioner weather its a daily or a leave in. this will make your hair feel dry but it won't be, it's stripping all that gunk out. biologe has a new cooling mint shampoo, conditioner and a oil control spray that would work for your hair, you wouldn't have to use a clarifying shampoo with that. Any clarifying shampoo would work though.

    Clarifying shampoo?

I want to buy a clarifying shampoo can anyone tell me the exact name of one found in the drugstores and also how often do you use itClarifying shampoo?
i like de-gunkify by herbal hessances it smells great, really gets all the junk out of your hair....and it kinda tingles your scalp...it comes in a gree bottle! I use it about once a week or when whenever my hair is feeling extra clogged by hair products.Clarifying shampoo?
If you want a really good clarifying shampoo, used by professional salons, I highly recommend that you just visit Sally Beauty Supply and pick one up. It's going to provide much better results than one you get at the drug store.

There's a Sally near you, check the store locator on their website.

    Clarifying shampoo!!!!!!!?

Ok so I dyed my hair and got some answers on how to lighten it up. I was told to use clarfying shampoo and then rinse with HOT water! First, is this the right thing to do? Second, how much of the color will it take out? And third, what is a clarifying shampoo? haha I have no idea what it is. Can I buy it at a drug store and what are some companys that make it? (Pantene, Tresemme, Suave, etc.) HELP ME PLEASE!!!!Clarifying shampoo!!!!!!!?
Nutragena makes a nice clarifying shampoo. It may help take some of the color out, but you can also see a stylist and have them chemically remove some or all of the color, depending on the color. As far as hot water rinse, don't burn your hair and be careful. Warm water should suffice.Clarifying shampoo!!!!!!!?

  • Clarifying shampoo?

Ive read that you you should use a clarifying shampoo if you use alot of different poducts in your hair (grease, gel, spritz, etc.) Can someone please tell me a few brands of clarifying shampoo?Clarifying shampoo?
Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Shampoo is the best. It smells great, cleans your hair really good, and is affordable. Just make sure to follow it with a good moisturizing shampoo because clarifying shampoos cleanses everything out your hair and it can be drying.Clarifying shampoo?
I believe that Neutrogena Shampoo, (anti-residue formula) does the best job. Note that if your hair is very processed, using this may make your hair feel dry temporarily. I would recommend using this shampoo for 2 weeks or so, and then going back to whatever shampoo you normally use.
Suave has a good Daily Clarifying shampoo. Johnson's baby shampoo also does the same thing. Strips everything out of your hair.
I use Aubrey Organics Green Tea once a week.

Other brands are: Suave, Pantene, Clairol, Nexxus, Neutrogena.

I also use vinegar or lemon juice diluted with water as a rinse daily.
    paul mitchells
Aveda,if am spelling that right, they are a bit expensive, so I think I am going on Ebay to look for some deals
clarifying shampoo has sulfer in it which will strip your hair down, if you have anything done to the hair it will cause more damage, unless you don't dye, bleach or do anything to your hair you'll be fine.

paul mitchel has a good one...tea-tree
    Pantene Clarifying Shampoo is great.
    baby lotion
paul mitchell shampoo three is the best
every 2 weeks mixed 1/2 cup baking soda with 1 cup of water, soda will not dissolve, but will settle in the container, when your in the shower, wet your hair as usual, then stir soda mixer just before you poor it over your hair, work remaining undissolved soda into your hair...rinse thoroughly to remove baking soda

    Daily clarifying shampoo?

I've heard that clarifying shampoos should only be used once a week, or even once a month. But if the bottle says DAILY clarifying shampoo, is this ok to use everyday?Daily clarifying shampoo?
Many clarifying shampoos can be used daily...but you really don't need to use that every day unless your hair is super, super oily. You don't want to strip out too much of the natural oils, or it will get way too dry. If you do want to use that shampoo daily, at least follow up with a light conditioner in the shower, or a light spray-in type conditioner, so your hair doesn't dry out too much.Daily clarifying shampoo?
    water
It depends on your hair type. I have extremely thin hair and it's crappy for me, it really dries out my hair, don't listen to what the bottle says.

Where can i buy a Clarifying Shampoo? do you think theyy'll sell em at walgreens?

Anyplace that sells shampoo will have it.Where can i buy a Clarifying Shampoo? do you think theyy'll sell em at walgreens?
Yes you can get them at Walgreens or salons. A lot of different brands have their own clarifying shampoo. They may not call it by that exact name though. With clarifying shampoos you have to be careful because they can strip your hair of stuff that it needs and dry it out. So if you do get some try not to use it every single day unless it says it's gentle enough to. Good luck! :)Where can i buy a Clarifying Shampoo? do you think theyy'll sell em at walgreens?
yeah pantene makes one that's pretty good

What are examples of clarifying shampoos and conditioners?

I've gotten answers to questions such as, ';Use a clarifying shampoo once a week,'; but I haven't heard of such thing. Any links would be appreciated.

What are clarifying hair products? What are examples of clarifying shampoos and conditioners?
Yeah, it's basically just a deep cleaning shampoo...if you use a lot of styling products you can get build up...(like dirt and grease)

Using a clarifying shampoo deep cleans your hair and washes away all the crap.

And you can use it everyday if you want...its not like a weekly ritual. But I would suggest this if you use a lot of products on your hair.

    Hope I helped!

-MichelleWhat are examples of clarifying shampoos and conditioners?
clarifying simply means removes excess product buildup etc. from your hair and scalp. everyone can benefit from this 1 or 2 times a month a cheap and very effective shampoo for this is plain old Prell. get it at walmart and just about anywhere else
Try reading a few bottles on the shelf. There are plenty that are labelled as clarifying. Clarifying means it will strip/clean out any excess dirt and product. You could just use sunlight dish soap, it will wash out just about anything.
    Loreal, Tresseme

Does clarifying shampoo get rid of dandruff?

No clarifying shampoo cleanses your hair. Only dandruff shampoo gets rid of dandruff.Does clarifying shampoo get rid of dandruff?
A clarifying shampoo is used to reduce product buildup on your hair and not reduce the incidence of dandruff.

If you're looking for a shampoo that will help with an itchy scalp and dandruff, look for a tea tree oil shampoo. Your scalp will thank you.

However, one thing I've used over the years that will reduce buildup as well as help if you're dealing with dandruff is, Apple Cider Vinegar. Use it like a ';pre-wash'; conditioner on your scalp and hair (put on a shower cap and leave it on for 10-30 minutes), rinse your hair and wash it as you normally do.Does clarifying shampoo get rid of dandruff?
last year my roommate and i moved to california form florida, and the humidity is waaaay different

its very very wet in florida and very dry in california, my roommate developed really bad dandruff and we just picked up head and shoulders (one of the better smelling ones so he doesnt smell like dandruff shampoo) and he uses is once a day, for the last year, and he has not had a single flake since

    good luck
No if anything it could make it worse......clarifying shampoo is for product build up and chemical build up in the hair......massage vinegar into your scalp before you shampoo with a mild dandruff shampoo...It changes the PH of your scalp and helps with the flakes...................

  • Can i use a clarifying shampoo on my colored hair?

yes u canCan i use a clarifying shampoo on my colored hair?
Yes if you want to strip the color!!

No clarifiers in colored hair unless you are trying to lighten the color a bit.

Clarifiers are to ';clarify'; the hair of impurities. Good for before a perm, lots of product overload and to rid of unwanted color to hair.

If you used a clarifier on a nice cool blonde, you'd end up with a blonde with more ';yellow'; popping though.

What exactly do the clarifying shampoos do?

also do they help keep your hair healthy...and if so what is the best type to use? What exactly do the clarifying shampoos do?
these shampoos are supposed to eliminate the excess oil and product build-up (ex. waxes, silicone) in your hair, but be careful, these shampoos are not supposed to be used on a daily basis because they strip your head of its natural oils and then the scalp will try to over compensate and restore balance by producing too much oilWhat exactly do the clarifying shampoos do?
they clean product build up out of your hair!
I don't think that they really clean product build up out of your hair, but they add less build up that lets say a moisturizing shampoo. I use a clarifying shampoo because I wash my hair the night before. My hair seems to stay cleaner throughout the the next day.
They get rid of the build up from the other shampoos that you use......Neutragina is the best one!! I think I misspelled the brand
they help with getting chemicals out your hair and also chlorin from water. its not good though to use it daily you should only use it at the most 2 days a week but definatly no more than that b/c it can damage your hair big time the best one i have used is one by ';KMS'; they sell it at beuty supply stores that sell brand name shampoos and conditioners
Clarifying shampoos remove build up - stuff like gels, mousse, hairspray, etc - from your hair. Unless you use a lot of styling products on your hair, I wouldn't use it all the time. Constant use of it could dry out the ends of your hair and stimulate the oil glands of the scalp. It's always better to go with a shampoo that is suited to what sort of hair (dry, oily, colored, permed, etc) you have.
well i used to use Pantene and hair stylists say that its bad for your hair i either use Aussie or Sunsilk
They get rid of any build up/ residue on your scalp caused by other shampoos.

I use Neutrogina anti-residue shampoo once a week.

It seems to work for me :]
Dries out your hair killing it
They look at each hair and say ';yup, it's a hair';......
Nothing really, it's all a play of words to get more purchases from customers. Shampoo is shampoo.
It gets rid of all the product buildup on your scalp and hair.
they ';strip'; buildup out of your hair. be wary if you have dry hair, as they also strip the natural oils out of your hair and will dry it out even worse. also, i don't recommend them if you have colored hair (especially red, it fades easily enough on its own!)...i have used clarifying shampoo to strip out haircolor when it comes out too dark.
Clarifying shampoos cleans buildup out of your hair. You could actually use clarifying shampoo when you come from swimming because it takes the chlorine out of your hair. If can be also used after applying relaxers or color to your hair.

However, its not my recommendation to use this on a regular basis. Depending on the type of hair you have, you should go with those type of shampoos.

If you do use the clarifying, make sure you have an excellent conditioner that can follow that. I would recommend keeping the conditioner on for at least 10 to 15 minutes because it can be really harsh so you need something to soften it up.

Like you know, herbal essences, Pantene, Sunsilk. Those types from the drugstore, if ya know what I mean. What are types of clarifying shampoos/conditioners that are inexpensive?
like one girl said erbal essences of tresseme work

or doveWhat are types of clarifying shampoos/conditioners that are inexpensive?
Honestly these are the best Ive tried better than Paul Mitchell they clean your hair really well: Suave daily clarifying shampoo/conditioner or Pantene Purity clarifying shampoo/conditoner.Try them it really depends on your hair type as well.If your hair is on the dry or coarse side these are not the best for you.
VO5 (estimated at $1.00 at drugstores), Garnier Fructis (estimated at $4.00 at drugstores), and TRESemme (estimated at $5.00 at drugstores) are all excellent INEXPENSIVE brands. Stay away from Suave! It has never done what it claims to do.
I used Suave clarifying shampoo to get rid of build up, it had a clean scent, worked well and inexpensive. I'd use it again.
herbal essences and tresseme are good and cheap. plus theyre not tested on animals.

    What's a good clarifying shampoo?

I have really oily roots and by the end of the day my hair smells really musty. I am self concious to hug people because I'm afraid my hair'll smell just really disgusting. Does anyone recommend a good clarifying shampoo that will clear up my hair? What are some tips to prevent bad-smelling hair?

PS: I wash my hair every day. What's a good clarifying shampoo?
Ok here is the thing, it is a total myth that you are not supposed to wash your hair everyday, you absolutely can. I personally reccomend a daily washing. However, if you use clarifier daily it is going to dry the rest of your hair out and if you are color treated it will eventually strip out some of your color. So I would say use a clarifier 1-2 times a week (try Paul Mitchell's Shampoo 3 or Tea Tree Special Shampoo, or Shampoo 2 is not as harsh as the others above) and then on the ';off days'; use Paul Mitchell's The Wash. The wash is a moisture balancing shampoo that will only impart moisture where it is most needed, so your roots shouldn't see a lot of moisture there. And the follow it up with Paul Mitchell's The Rinse. The rinse is a very light moisture balancing conditioner. It will help keep the rest of your hair in shape and not looking so dried and fried from the frequent use of clarifiers. What's a good clarifying shampoo?
Well i have the same sort of problem. I wash my hair everyday but it takes the goodness out of my hair and drys it out.

I use an asda apple shampoo.

    Cheap shampoos are pretty good.

But if you wash you hair everyday its not good so you should not us condition everytime because it kind of eats at your hair/wares it down. So try using conditioner erevery other day.

Smelly fruity conditioners are great as they leave your hair smelling fruity and nice.

    Hope i helped :-)

PS: don't wash your hair everyday, BAD IDEA.eeekk.

you're only supposed to wash it twice every week!
I'm looking for a good shampoo that will help me clarify some of the ludicrous questions asked on this service, and the even more ludicrous answers
Neutrogena makes a really good clarifying shampoo. Also Bath and Body works makes a spray for hair (or they did). I bought it a few years ago for my stepmother thinking it was regular body spray. But that could help with the musty problem. Also, washing your hair with a shampoo that strips moisture out will cause your scalp to freak out and produce more oils to protect it. Try using a mild soap like a baby shampoo that doesn't strip out the oils in your scalp!

    Good Luck!
    Go to this site:

find your nearest location, and go there!

believe me every product they have is well worth every penny!
try patine clarifying shampoo you can find it at any CVS or Walgreen's
    nuetrogena
    use camomile shampoo
    head and shoulder

dove makes it more oily cause has moisture in it
scruples clarifying shampoo. Only sold in salons. look on computer for supplier.
Nexxus AloeRid gets rid of impurities and is good for daily use.
girl, i suggest you go to the nearest derm clinic in your area, it is best that you get examined and get the straight answers for the cause of your oily scalp. bathing everyday/shampooing seems to cause no change. so before you try any new shampoo on the market pay a visit to the derm clinic to end your problems. so you can get back and pump up your social life. good luck and hey its only temporary its curable.
    Nioxin
I would try to use baby shampoo. Especially since you wash your hair every day. It is much more gentle than regular ones.

I am not sure if it will fix your particular problem but it definately will help. It helped me
well my sister is a hair dresser and she prefers bed head its really good on any type of hair what every u do not use suave its ok but cant help your hair stay clean and bed head helps you strightin your hair i love it
look what that clarifying crap has done for me.

Stop, Don't use it. Be Bald girls Isn't easy. Inow use sun block on my head.
    you buy shampoo%26amp; choudshier
like i told someone eles on here docter meracles iz the way to go
My favorite is L'AvanteGarde Clean Canvas. I buy it at the hair salon. You use it once a week and it's fabulous! Your hair just shines and feels so smooth afterwards. But it's only to remove product, not really for oily hair.

Have you thought of using a dandruff shampoo on your oily hair? Even if you don't have dandruff, it will help control the oil . And Neutrogena's T-Gel shampoo is FABULOUS for oily hair.
    herbal essences
I also wash my hair everyday--it is very fine and if I don't wash it, it gets oily and gross, so I can relate! I have been using Pantene's Ice Shine line and it does a great job of cleaning my hair and it smells really good! I use the shampoo and conditioner.

Make sure that when you are washing your hair, use the shampoo on the roots (mostly) then rinse thoroughly. Then, use conditioner on the ends and work your way up. If this continues to be a problem, I would consult a dermatologist, because that doesn't sound right. Also, make sure your hair is thoroughly dry before putting it in a ponytail or whatever. Wet hair can smell funny sometimes.
Washing your hair every day could be the problem. It dries out your scalp, and it could be trying to compensate for that by creating more oil.Try washing every other day and see what happens. It might take a week or so for your scalp to adjust (this may or may not work).

When you do shampoo, make sure you lather, rinse and repeat, leaving the shampoo on your head AT LEAST five minutes each time. Shampoo really does work better that way.

I would try a good clarifying shampoo once a week. I recommend anything that can be bought at a salon---not something that you buy at Wal-Mart. You might even want to try an anti-dandruff shampoo once a week.

A couple of other things you can do is to combat the oil is using apple cider vinegar as a rinse...it works wonders to remove anything left over from shampooing and conditioning (it smells bad, so make sure you rinse with water afterwards). Lemon juice and distilled water also makes an excellent rinse to combat oiliness.

If you still have trouble with oil at the end of the day , do a temporary 'dry' shampoo by sprinkling a tiny amount of talcum powder (I recommend Zeasorb-AF) onto your hair one section at a time. Rub the powder first onto the scalp, then through the hair with your fingers. Not only will it absorb the oil but it will also freshen up your hair. Don't use too much or it will make your hair look white and dull.
herbal essences any type. And dove melon %26amp; cucumber conditioner
    Dove is really good.
Have you ever gone to a hair dresser. They sell all kinds of profesional shampoo. I have to same problem and all I had to do was go buy the real shampoo. If you buy shampoo from just any store like walmart or zeller or any thing like that the shampoo %26amp; condtioner is full of wax and it just coats your hair that is why it feels so soft it doesnt clean you hair it just adds crap to you hair.
Nexus is the best. They have a specifi clarifying shampoo. Works and smells great.
most people dont wash their hair that often if u can wash it everyother day or twice a week! sounds wierd but washing less helps grease etc. i found alberto balsam to be awsome clarifying shampoo leaves u shiney and smells gorgous wiv loadsa flavours!

  • Alternative to clarifying shampoo?

i need to get out all of the left over temporary hair dye out of my hair..but i dont have time or money for buying some kind of clarifying shampoo..

does anyone have any suggestions/tips for alternatives?Alternative to clarifying shampoo?
Clarifying shampoo costs like 5.00 but white vinegar or lemon juice will work just fine.Alternative to clarifying shampoo?
    vinegar
when i was 16, i got this bright idea to dye streaks of my hair blue, and the tips. it was really cute at the time. then when i had to get it out, it didn't want to. my hair was green (I'm a blonde) so what i had to do was bleach it several times. then i colored it a light brown/dark blond. it still wasn't completely out. it took over a year for it to all come out. I'll never forget it either. my friend called me shreck! it wasn't bright green or anything... just a very light hint of green. it sucked! shampoo wont help. just go to a stylist.
Clarifying shampoo doesn't remove hair dye. It is for cleaning chemicals such as chlorine or hair sprays out.

    Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo?

Is this good to get rid of build up? Are you supposed to use it everyday?Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo?
I've never used it, but since it says ';Daily';, I bet it's safe to use everyday. Instead of Suave, which I never found to be a good brand, I would recommend Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo. You only have to use it once a week and a 6-ounce bottle lasts for three months.Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo?
it'll tell you on the bottle but just so you know, Suave products have many of the same ingredients that floor wax has

I have never dyed my hair (it's natural: light brown). Will clarifying shampoo fade my natural hair color?

Hello! I have never dyed my hair because I love my hair natural. I have a few strands of grey/white hair. People have recommended me to use a clarifying shampoo to remove the buildup from hairsprays/gels. I would like to know, if I use that shampoo, will my hair become lighter and produce more white strands of hair? I don't want any more strands of grey hair...I have never dyed my hair (it's natural: light brown). Will clarifying shampoo fade my natural hair color?
No, it won't. I've used this even after I've dyed my hair and it didn't fade the color.

It also removes the build-up from water; like the minerals in it or whatever. That tend to turn your hair brassy if you have blonde hair, but I don't think you'll have to worry about that hahaha.

But it helps.I have never dyed my hair (it's natural: light brown). Will clarifying shampoo fade my natural hair color?

Clarifying shampoo is designed to remove mineral %26amp; styling product build up. My favorite is Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo.

Pantene makes a clarifying formula. Nexxus makes one called Aloe Rid but it is a bit drying. There are other brands too. What it clarifying shampoo?
Dove may make a clarifying shampoo. I've used Swave. It does a better job at washing away hair spray and all the other things we all tend to put on our hair thus preventing build-up.
Clarifying shampoo strips all the product buildup and oil out of your hair. I'm not sure what the kit is you're talking about, but I'm really doubting it will come with shampoo.

  • Clarifying shampoo to lighten my dyed dark-brown hair?

so my hair color is naturally a dark dark blonde.

ive been dying it different colors, i get tired of the color.

i had dyed it a light blonde after having it black.

then i missed it being brown.

so i bought a box of dark brown dye, but it turned out i missed a couple blonde chunks and i ended up having to dye it again, making it more black than brown.

if i use clarifying shampoo, will it make the brown lighter?

if so, how much lighter? and how many time do i need to use it for this to work?

THANKS :)Clarifying shampoo to lighten my dyed dark-brown hair?
The clarifying shampoo will only help if the dye isn't permanent. If it's a wash-in/wash-out dye, washing with a clarifying shampoo might speed up the process of washing it out.

What's the best clarifying shampoo/conditioner combo that I could get at a normal store (not a salon)?

HI - I am trying to figure out what shampoo to try next. My hair is long, very thick and heavy - and my hair gets a lot of build up from products that no matter how much I'm rinsing they just don't rinse clean and by morning my head feels gross. I've tried pantene, suave, tresemme, herbal essences, head and shoulders, pert plus... no idea what else to try. a friend suggested a clarifying shampoo so before I send my huby to store I figured I'd find out what works good. He'll be going to Walmart - so nothing you can only get ni a salon will work..... Thx :)What's the best clarifying shampoo/conditioner combo that I could get at a normal store (not a salon)?
baking soda %26amp; Giovanni 50/50. I have long hair and it is particular. Tried just about everything and a hairdresser at a salon gave me the tip. In the shower put the soap in your hand and add 1 tsp baking soda. It works great, make sure to lather really well, us more shampoo if necessary. Use the 50/50 conditioner until you notice your hair balancing out. These are organic products ( a mega plus) and they work the best I have ever used (and I've used what you used) They ranger around $7 a bottle but they are very worth it, espcially for hair like ours. IF wal mart doesn't carry it try your local drug store or higher end supermarket chain. Any supermarket with a organic section should have it.What's the best clarifying shampoo/conditioner combo that I could get at a normal store (not a salon)?
The best is Dove. I also have long thick hair and it is hard to find shampoo that is a good and a great price. I use moisturizing shampoo (the label is blue). If you like it you can go on their web site and Dove will send you some awsome coupons. Good Luck! :) Report Abuse

try Neutrogena, it's known for taking product build-up out of hair.

They make a clarifying shampoo and they say it will take up to 90% of the build up from other shampoos and style products.

    good luck
Neutragena makes one. Vinegar works too...so does beer!
Suave has a nice clarifying shampoo and so do many of the other brands such as Alberto, White Rain. Most shampoos today are in the proper pH range except for the really inexpensive ones. Clarifying are used to strip the hair clean and may be a bit drying if used regularily. Possibly you need a shampoo for normal to oily hair because Pantene is used by many people with very dry hair.

What is a ';light, clarifying'; shampoo? ?

My stylist said my hair needs it but I felt too stupid to ask what she was talking about, do you know what it is and any good brands? What is a ';light, clarifying'; shampoo? ?
clarifying shampoo is a shampoo that strips the build up out of the hair..such as products, hairspray and etc, stuff that may be causing the hair to weight down or become dull. she said light clarifying because its gentle without stripping color and natural oils from the hair. i recommend that everybody use a clarifying shampoo from time to time to cleanse the hair. its not a bad thing she told you to do. next time dont be afraid to ask. she wont think your dumb. after all you didnt go to cosmetology

    Clarifying shampoo for colored hair?

What is the best clarifying shampoo for color treated hair?

Like cleans out all the gunk and wont fade color?Clarifying shampoo for colored hair?
A good one is Redken Creme Cleanser. However you should not clarify your hair when it has been freshly dyed for at least a few weeks. Most people clarify 1-2 times a month. However if you are a swimmer and are exposed to more hard water and chlorine, you may need to clarify 1-2 times per week. I would recommend using Redken Creme Cleanser 2 times a month before you dye your hair again, then after you dye it, begin using Redken Color Extend, also John Freida and Paul Mitchell have good color protecting products for cheaper. You will have clarified your hair, then you can work on keeping the color, and begin clarifying again about 3-4 weeks later. Good Luck!

THANKSHOW MANY times should I use a clarifying shampoo....??
Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo = the best clarifying shampoo.

Use the Suave shampoo to clean your combs %26amp; brushes.

    1) Make sure your hair is really wet.

    2) Pour just a bit in your hand %26amp; rub your hands together to start a lather.

    3) Apply starting at the back %26amp; the roots working your way forward.

    4) After rinsing your hair completely, use a deep conditioner on the ends.

    5) # of times you will have to do this depends on how much build up you have on your hair from minerals in the water, styling products, etc. Use the clarifying shampoo 1-2 times a week at first %26amp; then 1x/week afterwards for maintanence.HOW MANY times should I use a clarifying shampoo....??
Being a professional stylist, I really don't recommend Suave products, however, to answer your question, you should have seen a huge difference from the first washing. Did you distribute it evenly? Did you let it sit on your hair for 5 minutes, or follow what the directions said? I would recommend getting yourself some plain old arm and hammer baking soda. Mix equal parts of water to powder. Shampoo your hair with your normal shampoo, use the mixture, let it stand for 5-8 minutes, rinse, shampoo again, and condition. You can do this twice a week until your hair feels back to what you would call normal for you.
If you use a gentle clarifying shampoo, I use pantine pro-v, you should be able to use it everyday. I used it after I swim cuz I have blonde hair. Just follow it up with a good conditioner to further prevent your hair from drying out.
clarify it only when you over dyed it (takes the brassiness out), and when you go in the pool or bleach, or if you have well water in this case you should use it 2 times a week.... to revive it again, use a shampoo packed with moisture, like dove shampoo

  • Do you have to use pantene clarifying shampoo to fade the black or can it be an off brand kind?

okay i tried to wash out the black and a hairdresser told me head and shoulders woudl work cuz it has zinc in it i think thats what she said so try it!!!Do you have to use pantene clarifying shampoo to fade the black or can it be an off brand kind?
I am sorry to tell you this, but if you actually color your hair black, you need a miracle to fade the color.

Black hair color is the hardest to fade, no even a lot of ';bleach'; can give you the best result.

But, if the ';black'; you are talking about is dark brown, any clarifying shampoo can do it.

One time I heard about Baby shampoo can do a good job fading haircolor.

Good Luck!!!!Do you have to use pantene clarifying shampoo to fade the black or can it be an off brand kind?
If the dye can fade, I'm sure any shampoo will fade the black after XX amount of washes. You don't necessarily have to use that certain brand to do it.

    What is a clarifying shampoo?

Aren't they similar to anti-residue shampoos? What is a clarifying shampoo?
a clarifier shampoo is simply one that will remove build up such as hairspray, ect. also removes chlorine in the summer... always wash with a clarifing shampoo before perming for example and you know the hair is completely free of any sort of residue or build up...recommended use is about one time a week usuallyWhat is a clarifying shampoo?
Stripping shampoo meant to remove buildup in the hair
Yes they removes any residue of hair styling products/ dirt in your hair, use once a week only otherwise it will be too drying for the hair!
it removes excess oil and buildup from hair products.

they are different from anti-residue shampoos in that they not only do not leave residue on your hair, but remove what is already on it.

I know I asked this already but no one answered the other one ...Clarifying shampoo take out hair color ? Professional advice ?
hey, id be glad to help. i am 23 years old and have been a stylist fot 3 years now.

your hair will tone down some just by washing.. clarifying shampoo or not- doesnt make much of a difference at all.

it sounds as though you dyed it yourself..which is never a good idea. To make sure you get the shade you want.. I would go ahead and get it dyed back to the color you want AT A SALON!

a correction is hard enough to accomplish.. let alone on your own. thats my advice.

and you really should wait about a week at least. while you are at the salon get a deep conditioning treatment-this will help your hair from breaking. *and always remember to use a heat protectant spray before blowdrying or straightening..this will also keep your hair healthy.

sorry for your bad experience! =( goodluck!!Clarifying shampoo take out hair color ? Professional advice ?
Don't panic it will eventually fade.

No, clarifying shampoo has one job and that is to remove buildup of gels, mousses and other products that weigh down your hair with regular use

If you want to tone the colour down I suggest using John Frieda's colour glaze in brilliant brunette which enhances the brown tones in your hair and will soften the redness of the dye.

I would wait until the dye fades or gets brighter (which is VERY unlikely) until then tie it back and take care of it as usual.

DO NOT attempt to do anything silly or trying any other dyes/products that you THINK may help as it will possibly make it worse and as dyed hair is very sensitive it will most likely just cause more damage.

If you can not bear it any longer go and talk to your hairdresser and say your unhappy most will attempt to fix it for you with a TONER (ask them to use a toner to tone it down to the colour of your choice) and most will happily refund you.

Good luck and don't panic im sure it looks fine and your just panicking everyone hates it at first glance becuase its sucha change!
Depending on if its a box color or professional. If it was a professional color your stylist should've handled that when it was washed out. If it was a at home kit you should use a conditioning shampoo cause box color is very harsh on your hair but after a few shampoos reds fade n e way. Wash it one or 2 times and see if it gets to how you want it. If you wanna to change your hair back to its original color I would wait about a month to be on the safe side but within that month keep it conditioned. To much coloring can make your hair drier and it could start backing REALLY bad and FAST!!

What is the difference between clarifying and fortifying shampoo?

best answer gets 10 points of course

=]What is the difference between clarifying and fortifying shampoo?
Clarifying shampoo helps remove buildup from your hair. The buildup can be caused by styling products or other shampoos and conditioners (particularly moisturizing products). It can make your hair pretty shiny and very clean, but robs you of moisture and shouldn't be used every day.

Fortifying shampoo restores strength and (sometimes) moisture to your hair. It is good for damaged hair that needs some strength. It can also add a bit of bulk to fine hair. What is the difference between clarifying and fortifying shampoo?
its all the same to me.
clarifying shampoo strips your hair of all impurities (products that you might have put in your hair.. etc). fortifying shampoo strengthens hair with vitamins and natural elements (seaweed, oils.. etc.)
fortifying is protien for your hair. like if you hair is very weak it will bring it back to health. like if you just bleached your hair. and clarifying is if you need to cleanse it a lot. like if you have a ton of product build up. its good to use a clarifier once a week if you use a lot of products on your hair. but i wouldn't use it if you have color in your hair cuz it might fade it.

    woop!
Fortifying gives your hair strength, it helps to keep it strong. Clarifying takes all the dirt, spray, gel, etc out. If you don't want your hair to get lighter don't use clarifying shampoos. Clarifying shampoos is recommended when you dye your hair and you want the color to bleed a little.

Mixing developer and clarifying shampoo to lighten?

i was just at Sally's Beauty Supply and I spoke with a lady there who said if i mix equal parts of developer and clarifying shampoo and applied it to my permanently dyed black hair... it will lighten it with out turning orange... anyone else ever do this? she said to leave it on for about 5 min ive neevr heard of it but am willing to try just about anything to make the black blend in with my light brown roots... until i can dye it all back to blonde...Mixing developer and clarifying shampoo to lighten?

The best I've found is the ORIGINAL green Herbal Essences clarifying shampoo that smells really flower-y. (Not the Degunkify one!) It gets rid of everything, and I use a ton of products in my hair. It's kind of hard to find because they have all those new lines. I saw it at Target the other day, though.

What's a good daily clarifying shampoo?

I have the Neutrogena once-a-week stuff. Love it, but hate the smell. Can you recommend a good brand (that I can buy at a regular store) that won't leave a residue on my hair? What's a good daily clarifying shampoo?
I use Herbal Essences ';DeGunkify'; to clean my hair everyday. It gets rid of all the build up from the products I use on my short spikey hair. It is reasonably priced and you can find it at Wal Mart. What's a good daily clarifying shampoo?
You don't need to clarify your hair on a daily basis. All you are doing is stripping the natural oils from your hair and scalp. If you have build up and use this product every day its obviously not working. Make a paste from baking soda and water, put it through your hair and let it sit for 10 min or so. You can also rinse your hair with white vinegar before you shampoo. Maybe you should consider salon products to prevent build up. They may be a little more expensive but if you don't overuse it you will find out it lasts alot longer. When you shampoo you should only use the size of a dime or quarter depending on the length and thickness. The same with conditioners. Ask your stylist about products and don't let her talk you into purchasing a $30.00 bottle of shampoo. At my salon we have high end products, mid range and low end. They are all great products and everyone deserves to spend some money on their hair every 6 weeks or so.
Pantene Purify Clarifying Shampoo is my favorite!!!

It smells good and it works!!!

Why is clarifying shampoo needed, doesn't regular shampoo do the same thing- gets rids of residues?

Only somewhat. It doesn't get rid of EVERYTHING. Clarifying shampoo needs to be used about once a month, or more,or less, depending on what you use in your hair.

If you use hairspray, gel, mousse, or other products in your hair, it starts to BUILD UP on your hair, making it feel gross, heavy, unclean, yuckkk. Regular shampoos don't get rid of all of that. Why is clarifying shampoo needed, doesn't regular shampoo do the same thing- gets rids of residues?
clarifying shampoo is deep cleansing shampoo. it cleans better than any other shampoo. ever use noxzema facial cleanser? it's a deep cleansing cream that contains eucalyptus as well as clarifying shampoo. good luck! Why is clarifying shampoo needed, doesn't regular shampoo do the same thing- gets rids of residues?
    Its clear shampoo

Its purpose is mainly remove residue like build up oils, styling products it should be use once week not often
It's good for stripping things out of your hair. If you color your hair I wouldn't recomend because it will strip your color also.
get shampoos and coniditonors with no paraben and sls cause it will make your hair fall out

My hair dresser advised I buy clarifying shampoo to help control the damage from the chlorine, but I'm not sure what kind.

I'm racially mixed, and I have very, very curly hair. It's thick, but each of the strands are thin. It's very sensitive to damage and chemicals, so I have to be careful with the type of shampoos I use.

Does anyone know any good brands of clarifying shampoo that I could use that won't dry out my hair?Whats the best clarifying shampoo?

What's a cheap, effective clarifying shampoo?

something around 5 dollars that works well and gets rid of build up from other styling products. I've heard you can use dishwasher liquid but I want something that doesn't TOTALLY dry out hairWhat's a cheap, effective clarifying shampoo?
    Pantene Pro-V Purity

it's a new shampoo that they have and its description takes care of exactly what you saidWhat's a cheap, effective clarifying shampoo?
I know this sounds silly, but I have a ';natural remedy'; book that says to shampoo your hair as usual, rinse, then spray equal parts of vinegar and water on it. Let it stay on a few minutes, then rinse. The vinegar breaks up the build up. I have done this and it does work. Just follow up with a conditioner afterwards.
Actually I just recently tried Pantine ProV Ice Shine and use Vo5's Shower Hot Oil Treatment (once a week) afterward's and it doesn't dry out my hair.. (and I have thick wavy hair).
For that price Point - I reccomend Neutrogena brand Clarifying Shampoo- you use it every day for a week - it removes all buildup - you can find it at most drug stores or dept stores ,you really do not want to use dish soap on your hair
Suave Clarifying shampoo. Only $.89. Works great.

    A really effective clarifying shampoo?

The water quality in my city is disgusting. Its a hard water that leaves a lot of scum in the shower so I know its a big cause of my now dry hair. Can someone recommend a good clarifying shampoo to clean it out?A really effective clarifying shampoo?
Honestly, Suave, I use it and I have also seen it recomended in some magazines. They have a daily clarifying, it will strip your hair from everything. I have an extremely oily scalp and right now its dandruff season too. I have very complicated hair/scalp. I use clarifying to get all the junk off and that helps the dandruff shampoo (coal tar) work more effectivly because its not tryint to work through all the junk then I use a super a super moisturizing conditioner to help with the dryness.A really effective clarifying shampoo?

Why is UREA included in Paul Mitchell clarifying shampoo ingredients?

Why wouldn't it be? It's useful in a lot of situations, being a safe form of nitrogen. Why is UREA included in Paul Mitchell clarifying shampoo ingredients?
Urea or carbamide is an organic compound with the chemical formula (NH2)2CO. The molecule has two amine (-NH2) residues joined by a carbonyl (-CO-) functional group.

Urea plays an important role in the metabolism of nitrogen-containing compounds by animals, and is the main nitrogen-containing substance in the urine of mammals. Being solid, colourless, odorless, neither acidic nor basic, highly soluble in water, and relatively non-toxic, urea is widely used in fertilizers as a convenient source of nitrogen. Urea is also an important feedstock for the chemical industry. The synthesis of this organic compound by Friedrich W枚hler 1828 from an inorganic precursor was an important milestone in the development of chemistry.

The terms urea and carbamide are also used for a class of chemical compounds sharing the same functional group RR'N-CO-NRR', namely a carbonyl group flanked by two organic amine residues. Example include carbamide peroxide, allantoin, and hydantoin. Ureas are closely related to biurets and related in structure to amides, carbamates, diimides, carbodiimides, and thiocarbamides.
